PITTSBURGH -- Earlier this offseason, the Pitt Panthers lost Jonathan DiBasio, an assistant quarterbacks coach and offensive graduate assistant, to Boston College.

Now, Pitt have found replacements in the form of two new graduate assistants - Derik Abbot and Dwayne Scott. Abbott will fit more closely into what DiBasio was doing for the Panthers as he will also assume the assistant quarterbacks coach role under offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti.

Abbot arrives at Pitt after spending the past four seasons at the US Coast Guard Academy, where he coached quarterbacks and assisted in coordinating the passing game, helping freshman wideout Broock Desta earn NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2022.

A native of Florida, Abbot played college football at Robert Morris and Lindwood University. He also coached two seasons for the Lions from 2017-18. Abbot also completed a fellowship with the Tennessee Titans during their 2022 training camp.

Scott is a former standout center at Rhode Island who spent the 2019 season as a graduate transfer. He then turned to coaching, beginning life on the sidelines in 2021 as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Colorado State before moving to Penn State the following year, where he was an offensive graduate assistant who worked with the offensive line.
