Report: Pitt Hires New Special Teams Coordinator
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers didn't take long to begin filling their vacant assistant coaching post, adding a first new member to the staff this weekend.
According to a report from Brandon Marcello of 247Sports, the Panthers have hired Miami (OH) special teams coordinator Jacob Bronowski to fill the same position and serve as tight ends coach at Pitt.
Long-time assistant to head coach Pat Narduzzi, Tim Salem, had coached tight ends ever since the start of Narduzzi's time in Pittsburgh and was dismissed from his post last week.
Bronowski was named 247Sports' Special Teams Coordinator of the year after guiding his punter, Graham Nicholson, to the Lou Gorza Award, the most prestigious award a placekicker can earn, after a 26-27 year kicking field goals. And punter Alec Bevelhimer ranked 12th nationally with a punt average of 46.1 yards.
"Not many coaches had as good of a year as Miami's Bronowski," Marcello wrote about him in December. "The RedHawks special teams coach was responsible for the Lou Groza Award winner and also put together the nation's best punt coverage team — ranking No. 1 in net punting (44.1 yards) — to go along with a top-15 ranking in punt returns (12.5 yards) and a No. 2 ranking with six blocked kicks and punts."
The Redhawks' special teams unit was ranked as No. 1 unit in the country by ESPN's SP+.
Bronowski has coached at Tennessee, Central Florida, Robert Morris and the University of New Mexico. He's coached special teams at every stop and was the tight ends coach for the Lobos as well.
