INDIANAPOLIS -- Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane was able to give some more hopeful updates on the health of former Pitt Panthers safety Damar Hamlin, who is still in recovery after going into cardiac arrest during the Bills-Bengals game played in January.

Hamlin's recovery has been going well, according to Beane, well enough that he can visit his alma mater and hometown to watch Pitt take on Georgia Tech last week at the Petersen Events Center.

"Other than taking the world tour - I've seen him at basketball games and a few other spots, he's America's guest right now - but Damar's doing great," Beane said during the first day of the NFL Combine. "I'm happy we're all able to smile about his situation."

Hamlin is still seeing specialists all over the country to determine what the rest of his recovery process will look like, Beane said. He has "one or two" more to see before the evaluation of his current state is complete.

Two members of the Bills medical staff have traveled with him. Beane said the team decided to send their own personnel along with Hamlin to gather the most complete information on his recovery as well. At some point in the future, Hamlin and his doctors will have to make a decision about his long-term future and a potential return to football. The Bills want to be a part of that decision too.

"We want to make sure we're all in sync if the doctors say, assuming at some point he's seen them all, that we're in agreement that we're comfortable putting him out there," Beane said.

Beane knows Hamlin's current plan is to achieve a full recovery and play professional football again, but that has to be put on the back burner for now. He concluded his remarks at the Combine by saying the organization will continue to support Hamlin during this process.

"We’ll continue to support Damar through this whole thing," Beane said. "And again, I would like to give the storybook ending that he’s going to play again but we just don’t know that yet. If he does, we’ll all be very happy for him."
