PITTSBURGH -- While the Pitt Panthers conducted their first scrimmage of the season, their 2024 recruiting class got a little bit stronger. While pads cracked at the practice facility in the South Side, in-state offensive lineman Jiavani Cooley decided that Pitt is it for him.

Cooley, a three-star prospect according to On3, 247Sports and Rivals, stands 6'5 and weighs 285 pounds. On3 has the Erie native as the No. 22 player in Pennsylvania, while 247Sports and Rivals have him as pegged as the 30th and 29th-ranked, respectively, prospect in the state. He held offers from Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Toledo and Akron.

Cooley is the seventh member of the 2024 class and the first offensive lineman to commit to the Panthers this cycle. Pitt has the No. 25 class in the country, according to On3, the No. 19 class in 247Sports' rankings and the No. 16 class according to Rivals.
