PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers were one of many to jump in on the recruitment of 2025 guard Akbar Waheed III, a fast-rising, 6'6 prospect out of Bethesda, Maryland and Georgetown Preparatory School.

The Panthers, alongside Syracuse, Penn State, Miami (FL), Miami (OH), Boston College, Villanova, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Virginia, Auburn, SMU, Providence, Illinois, Bryant, Yale, Princeton, Penn, Albany, UMBC, Siena, San Diego, Air Force, Columbia and James Madison, all have reached out to Waheed recently according to a report from Jake Leiberman of The Portal Report.

Boston College, Penn State, Hofstra, Albany, Howard, Mt. St. Mary's, Maryland and Bryant have all extended offers.

On3 rates Waheed as a three-star prospect, the No. 6 player in Maryland, No. 35 shooting guard and No. 139 overall player in the class of 2025.

Waheed has basketball in his blood. His father has built a successful career as a college coach, most recently working as an assistant on Patrick Ewing's staff at Georgetown. Before that, he spent one season at Hofstra as an assistant coach, another season with the Oklahoma City Thunder as a scout, five years at Boston College as an assistant and 11 years at Niagra, his alma mater, as an assistant coach as well.
