PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers did not land a commitment from three-star Dematha High School defensive lineman Emmett Laws, who announced his commitment to Virginia Tech after naming it to his top five list earlier this month.

Laws chose Viginia Tech over Penn State, Maryland, Pitt and GGeorgia Tech. In addition to the five finalists, he held offers from Toledo, Boston College, Akron and Coastal Carolina. The 6'2, 265-pound prospect visited Pitt two weeks ago and picked up his offer then before including the Panthers in his list of finalists.

Laws is a consensus three-star prospect and the No. 19 player at his position in this class, per Rivals. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 61 interior lineman of this cycle. Rivals also has Laws as the No. 16 player in the state of Maryland, while 247 has him at No. 22.

10 players are pledged to Pitt's class of 2024. They have four defensive linemen - Francis Brewu, Jashear Whittington, Zachary Crothers and Ty Yuhas - in a class that ranks 19th nationally in 247Sports, 33rd in On3 and 17th in Rivals' team rankings.
