PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers made their first two major additions through the transfer portal official last week, announcing that High Point transfer Zack Austin and Rhode Island transfer Ishmael Leggett will join the program for the 2023-24 season.

Early in the process, this class of Panther transfers is considered better than the decorated class that preceded them. Austin and Leggett have combined to form the No. 36 transfer class in the country and the No. 5 class in the ACC, which ranks ahead of programs like Auburn, Kansas, Oregon and Memphis.

The Panthers' three-man 2022 transfer class, which helped raise the program from ACC cellar-dweller to a contender for the regular season conference title, finished 59th nationally in 247Sports' rankings behind the likes of VCU, East Carolina and Pacific, Rhode Island and Western Kentucky.

All three of their additions last offseason - Greg Elliot, Blake Hinson and Nelly Cummings - were rated as three-star transfer prospects as they looked to change schools and vastly out-played their recruiting rankings.

Austin, an All-Big South honorable mention in 2023, averaged 14.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals in 31 games - 26 of which were starts - for the High Point Panthers last season. Leggett averaged 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game during the 2022-23 campaign.
