PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are in the mix for a blue-chip wide receiver from Mississippi, who just reopened his recruitment this week. 2024 wideout J.J. Harrell had a change of heart and Pitt hopes that it ends with him in blue and gold.

Harrell decommitted from Tennessee earlier this week and has opened the door for a new wave of offers to roll in. Pitt was the first to throw their hat in the ring, extending an offer to Harrell just hours after he announced his decommitment from the Volunteers.

Harrell, a native of Sardis, Mississippi who attends North Panola High School, is ranked as high as the No. 1 player in Mississippi (On3) and is a unanimous top-10 player in the state. All of the major recruiting services have him rated as a four-star, while three - On3, 247Sports and Rivals - have Harrell ranked inside the top 250 prospects in the class of 2024, with Rivals ranking him as high as No. 65 nationally and the No. 10 receiver in the class.

Harrell will have his pick of schools in the second stage of his recruitment. He holds offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, LSU, Memphis, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, Penn State, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Louisville, Texas Tech, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Indiana and others.
