BREAKING: Liberty's Matt Williams Hired As Gamecocks New Pitching Coach
On Monday morning, it was reported by several outlets that South Carolina pitching coach Justin Parker was leaving to become the new pitching coach at Mississippi State after having spent the last two seasons in Columbia. These reports were followed up by subsequent reports that Matt Williams, the pitching coach for the Atlantic Sun's Liberty Flames, was the primary target for Mark Kingston to fill in the vacancy left by Parker.
It didn't take long it seems for both parties to come to an agreement, as the program officially announced on Tuesday afternoon that Williams had officially been hired as the Gamecocks' new pitching coach.
Williams spent the past four seasons with Liberty, a stretch that saw the Flames make it to three straight NCAA Regionals, the first time in school history that had ever occurred. Before heading to Lynchburg, Willliams spent the previous five seasons with UNC-Wilmington, where the Seahawks broke multiple school records under Matt's tutelage.
