South Carolina Hosts Former Citadel Forward
Though the 2022-2023 season only ended just nine days ago, Lamont Paris has been highly active in the transfer portal, and his efforts led to him and his staff hosting their first transfer portal visitor this offseason as Stephen Clark, a 6-8 forward from The Citadel, made his way to Columbia on Tuesday for an unofficial visit. Clark was an elite scorer this season, averaging 16.3 points a game while shooting 49.2 percent from the floor. He was also an elite post player in the Southern Conference, snagging 6.5 boards and 1.8 blocks a game.
Clark has connections to South Carolina through Gamecock forward Hayden Brown, who played at The Citadel before transferring to South Carolina this past offseason and developed a friendship with Clark while with the Bulldogs. Though he has just one year left of eligibility, Clark makes perfect sense for Lamont Paris' system, as the Gamecocks struggled to keep up with teams in the post in Paris' first season.
Combine this with the early losses of front court players to the transfer portal, and the potential loss of GG Jackson to the NBA, the recruitment of the former Bulldog forward could become even more vital for Paris and Co.
