Where Is Gamecock MBB In ESPN's Latest Bracket Projections?
Late last week, ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi released his updated bracket, which saw the South Carolina Gamecocks sitting in the "last four in" group before their dominating win against Arkansas. With that win, Lamont Paris' squad would now earn one of the Last Four Byes if the tournament started today. Carolina hopes to maintain that position as they get set to take on Kentucky later tonight and host Missouri later in the week.
With the updated bracket, the Gamecocks are also in a new region, going from Pittsburgh last week to Brooklyn, where 3rd-seeded Illinois, 6th-seed Florida Atlantic, and 14th-seed Umass-Lowell join them. Tonight, South Carolina will face a Kentucky Wildcats squad that's currently projected as a three-seed. ESPN analytics currently has Kentucky as a 5.5-point favorite and gives the Cats a 61.6 percent chance to win the matchup.
An upset for Lamont Paris and his team tonight could lead to another jump in Lunardi's bracket projections later this week. However, that's the last thing the Gamecocks are worried about right now. The team understands they have to take the season one game at a time, and currently, the team that stands in front of them is the Wildcats.
