Former Gamecock Assistant Coach Named NFL Offensive Coordinator
Former assistant coaches and players associated with South Carolina have had quite the cathartic stretch in the past week. This past Sunday, former Gamecock player and coach Rod Wilson won a Super Bowl Championship with the Kansas City Chiefs. On Tuesday, former Gamecock running back Duce Staley agreed to a contract with the Carolina Panthers, where he'll serve as the running backs and associate head coach.
Regarding the Panthers, it seems that the coaching staff wants to continue adding some Carolina flavor to the coaching staff, as it was announced on Friday that former Gamecock assistant coach Thomas Brown had been hired as the team's offensive coordinator.
A Georgia native, Thomas Brown served as the Gamecocks running backs coach in 2019, where he oversaw a unit that recorded its highest total of rushing touchdowns since 2016. Also, he served as the lead recruiter for two future lead rushers at South Carolina, running backs MarShawn Lloyd and ZaQuandre White. The Panthers are coming off a 7-10 season and finished second in the NFC South.
