Nearly two weeks into Fall camp, some rumblings have trickled out about South Carolina's new offense under Dowell Loggains, with the consensus reaction being overly positive. Spencer Rattler feels comfortable, and with the weapons the Gamecocks possess heading into the 2023 season, it feels like Carolina could take a step forward on that side of the ball.

These reports become even more resounding when some players from the defensive side of the ball are complimentary of the offense, which, while expected to a certain degree, indicates that South Carolina's offense might be making some crucial strides from last season. This was first conveyed by defensive back David Spaulding when he spoke to the media last week.

"This offense is great. They've been doing a lot, [and] for a defensive player, you would want to go against this type of offense because they give you so much, and you get to see everything in practice," Spaulding explained. "You get to become a better defensive player going against them every day. [Dowell Loggains] is a great offensive coordinator."

This message was also echoed by linebacker Mohamed Kaba when he spoke to the media earlier today.

"They've got a good scheme going right now," Kaba said. "I love seeing it, [and] I love practicing against it."

From the sounds of it, Dowell Loggains might be emphasizing diversity when it comes to the Gamecocks' offensive formations and alignments while keeping a lower volume of concepts in the playbook for quarterback Spencer Rattler. This type of scheme can make life difficult for a defense because when an offensive coordinator finds the right kind of concepts that can be run out of multiple formations, it can play mind games with all eleven defenders, especially those in the secondary.

This is, of course, an educated guess and something you would expect most offensive coordinators to do, but that entirely depends on how a play-caller balances out their playbook based on the personnel they have, what they want to run, and what kind of identity the head coach wants the offense to possess. With what's been said about Loggains to this point, it appears that he's emphasized multiplicity through formations, which, if used the right way with Spencer Rattler, could help South Carolina become more consistent in a positive manner in 2023.
