Look up the definition of a mixed bag in college football right now, and there's an argument to be made that the offense for South Carolina's Football team is what will come up. On the bright side, Spencer Rattler has made tremendous strides in the Gamecocks' offense, completing 73 percent of his passes for 1,411 passing yards and nine total touchdowns through five games this Fall.

On the flip side of the coin, South Carolina's running game has left a lot to be desired outside of some inspired runs from Mario Anderson Jr., accounting for just 87 yards per game on average, the eighth-lowest mark in college football. It's just one of many things that's eating at offensive Dowell Loggains, who explained on Wednesday that the Gamecocks offensive struggles are tied together in some capacity.

"Everything in football, it's a cycle. It's like, 'Hey, we're not great on third down.' Well, why are we not great on third down? Well, I think we're 119th in 3rd down yardage [which] is 3rd and 8 plus? Well, why is that? Because [we] have 69 inefficient runs. Why is the ball coming out so fast? Because you're in 3rd and 8, and they're rushing the passer with really good pass rushers, so the ball comes out early," Dowell explained. "You can't treat symptoms; you have to treat problems, and symptoms of some of this stuff are what sometimes become storylines that are not the truth."

With the admission that there are multiple issues at hand, one pertinent question that some people might wonder is what the staff is considering to alleviate some of these problems. The way Loggains sees it, multiple options are on the table, but no matter what, improvement isn't going to take place at the snap of a finger.

"As coaches, sometimes you gotta find the best way to fix problems with your assets and resources that you have, and sometimes that's change, sometimes that's schematics, sometimes it's personnel - There will be changes into multiple areas to try to fix that and try to cover that thing up, and I told you guys before over the last three or four weeks, it's gonna be a process. There's no overnight fix on this; there's not. There's young players playing. They are players that need to play better. We need to coach better. We need to clean things up."
