Former Gamecock RB Mike Davis Announces NFL Retirement
With football season having officially come to a close, many players at the NFL level are now contemplating their next steps, whether it relates to their respective teams, or their careers in their entirety. After some deep thought, one former South Carolina Football star has decided to call it a career, as former Gamecock running back Mike Davis announced his retirement on Monday.
Davis played 8 seasons in the NFL with 6 different teams, with his most notable season coming in 2020 with the Carolina Panthers, where the Georgia native put up career highs in carries (165), rushing yards (642) and total touchdowns (8). In terms of his college career, Mike was named a Second-team All-SEC back in his first year as Carolina's starter in 2013, and racked up 2,440 total rushing yards in his three seasons in Columbia, ranking 8th in program history. For years, Davis ran with a ferocity rarely seen in dual-threat running backs, and now, he can enjoy life after football knowing he gave it everything he had.
