What Else To Watch: Week One
The South Carolina Gamecocks have been presented a great opportunity in their week one matchup against North Carolina. The game will be nationally televised in a primetime slot on ABC and will get coverage from the popular Fall College Football show College Gameday.
Although we're less than 24 hours away from the Duke's Mayo Classic kicking off in Charlotte, there are plenty of other games and storylines for South Carolina fans to watch. Which ones stick out?
Joe Milton Versus Virginia's Defense
The noon television slot on Saturday is a bit of a snoozer in terms of competitive games, but Gamecock fans will want to keep an eye on this game. Fellow SEC member Tennessee will play the Virginia Cavaliers in Nashville and start a new quarterback in Joe Milton.
This is not Joe Milton's first time beginning the season as a starter for his team, but for one reason or another, Milton has never been able to put it all together despite the bazooka of an arm he possesses. Virginia might not be good this Fall, but they return 64% of their production from a defensive unit that finished 30th in pass defense in 2022, making this an intriguing first test for the new gunslinger in Knoxville.
How Does Kenutcky's Run Game Look?
If there was one team that people quickly realized wouldn't be a serious contender in 2022, it was the Kentucky Wildcats. Why? Well, it was primarily due to the offensive line playing its worst ball in several years, leading to an uninspiring ground game, and that's the antithesis of what Mark Stoops' program prides itself on.
The Wildcats brought in several transfers to help shore things up and moved a couple of contributors around to different positions. Facing a Ball State defense that gave up a whopping 182 rushing yards per game last Fall, this week could signal how much Kentucky's rushing attack will improve in 2023.
How Cade Klubnik Performs In 2nd Career Start
The Clemson Tigers are playing in a game that, quite frankly, isn't getting enough talk, squaring off against the Duke Blue Devils in Durham on Monday night. Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik will begin this season as Clemson's starter, and so far in his career, has been extremely inconsistent. With a new offensive play-caller in Garrett Riley, deemed a rising star in the coaching world, it'll be intriguing to see how the sophomore looks on Monday night.
