Midweek Betting Odds: South Carolina vs Georgia
Since their massive upset win over the Georgia Bulldogs in 2019, the South Carolina Gamecocks have admittedly had difficulty remaining competitive when facing Kirby Smart's squad. Over the past three seasons alone, Carolina has been outscored by the Bulldogs 133-36 and lost by an average margin of 32.3 points in each of those meeting.
Sometimes, when these oddsmakers set spreads for these kind of games, part of their calculations can include the recent history of the series, and that seems to be the case this year, as the consensus spread for this game is +27.5 points for South Carolina, according to vegasinsider.com. In the past three meetings, Georgia has covered the spread in two of the last three matchups, the sole exception being when the Gamecocks covered the 31-point spread back in 2021.
One interesting tidbit to keep in mind with this spread: since the beginning of the 2021 season, the Georgia Bulldogs have been listed as home favorites by the oddsmakers on 14 different occasions. Out of those 14 games, the Bulldogs have covered the spread only 5 times. This, of course, doesn't mean that South Carolina is a guarantee to cover the spread, much less remain competitive in this game. Still, it's interesting to note that the Bulldogs have struggled to cover these lines despite their recent dominance in the sport.
