Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to bounce back from their week one debacle against the North Carolina Tar Heels when they take a fellow in-state program in the Furman Paladins on Saturday night. The Paladins have several notable playmakers on both sides of the ball and will be looking not just to challenge the Gamecocks but to pull off an upset of epic proportions. How does the GamecocksDigest staff think things will play out this weekend?

Joseph Griffin: South Carolina 42 - Furman 17

This is a very experienced Furman squad, and the Gamecocks may get off to a slow start. However, explosive play opportunities will be there for the Gamecocks *IF* they have time to hit them.

Fisher Brewer: South Carolina 35 - Furman 7

I'm expecting a 35-7 Gamecocks victory over Furman, and my optimism stems from the Gamecocks' superior talent, past successes, and a game plan poised for victory. These strengths should lead to a convincing win.

Rob Gregory: South Carolina 48 - Furman 14

I believe the Gamecocks will come out angry after the frustrating loss last week to the Tar Heels and play fundamentally sound football, taking the lead early and growing that lead for the game's duration. Furman is certainly no slouch on the FCS level, currently ranked #6 in the FCS Coaches poll, but this is a game South Carolina should win big, given the discrepancies in size and talent.

Arvon Bacon: South Carolina 37 - Furman 17

I think Furman is going to play South Carolina tight in the first half, but as the second half progresses, the Gamecocks will just be too much for the Paladins.

Andrew Lyon: South Carolina 27 - Furman 24

This game would worry me as a Gamecock fan, considering the pressure on South Carolina, the problems the Paladins can cause in the run game, and the possibility of the weather playing a factor in this game. I think the Gamecocks win, but it’s a dogfight to the bitter end.
