South Carolinas Football team played much better in their home opener offensively, but there's still room for improvement.

The Gamecocks got back on the right track in the W-L column on Saturday night against the Furman Paladins, scoring 47 points in the process, their highest output since their blowout upset victory over the Tennessee Volunteers last November. While it was a mixed once again from the offense, there were some positives to take away from their week two contest.

Quarterbacks - A+

Spencer Rattler continued his impressive start in his final season, throwing for nearly 700 yards in the first two games, but most importantly, zero turnovers. Rattler hit 25 of his 27 pass attempts, completing 93 percent of his passes and nearly breaking Connor Shaw's single-game completion percentage record of 95.2 percent. Spencer made the right reads all night at the beginning and hit on all of his deep shots to help the Gamecocks pull away in convinving fashion.

Running Backs - B-

It wasn't a tremendous statical game, but they did a good job of utilizing cut-back lanes and hitting holes this week. Like last week, we still don't have a true grasp on what the backs can do because the offensive line still left a lot to be desired in their run scheme. I will point out that Dakereon Joyner did rather well, and Mario Anderson looked mighty impressive on his six carries.

Wide Receivers / Tight Ends - B +

Xavier Legette and Ahmarean Brown carried the load for most of the first half, combining for 118 yards, before Brown left the game with an apparent hamstring injury, per Shane Beamer. Once Dowell Loggains let Rattler rip it downfield, it seemed everyone was getting in on the action. They made plays when they needed to, and the only reason I'm not going to give them an A is because the perimeter blocking still has to be better.

Offensive Line - C+

Now, this may seem like too low of a grade, and while they performed much better in pass protection, there were still the occasional mistakes that will only partially show up on the state sheet. The unit also needs to be more consistent in the run game, averaging 2.8 yards per carry on 39 attempts. This line is still very capable, and they showed you that a couple of times last night as well. They've just got to be more consistent at stringing drives together.
