We are now nine weeks into the 2023 college football season, which means at this point we know what some teams, coaches, and players are this Fall. There are few scenarios that could drastically change people's opinions on those aforementioned groups or individuals. To this point in the 2023 season, there's no doubt that South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette has earned the right to be recognized as one of the best at his position in this sport.

Having racked up 736 receiving yards in seven games this season, he's earned accolades from NFL Draft scouting organizations like Pro Football Focus the Reese's Senior Bowl, along with a midseason All-American nod from the Associated Press. When making his opening statement at his weekly Monday press conference this afternoon, Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher highlighted Legette as one of the players that stands out the most to him from this Gamecock roster.

"[Xavier] Legette [is] probably a first-round guy," Fisher stated. "[He's] averaging almost 20 yards a catch [on] 38 catches. He's 6'3, 6'4, however big he is, 225 or 228 pounds. I mean [he] can run, can play physical [and] can run routes."

Xavier has been so dominant on the field that since week five against Tennessee, opposing defenses have been working overtime to ensure that the South Carolina native doesn't get many one-on-one opportunities during the game. While that's slowed Legette's pace ever so slightly, Jimbo emphasized that the Aggies secondary can't rest on their laurels if they match up against him on Saturday.

"You gotta know where he's at. You can't just say, 'Hey, you got him.' You're gonna have to get help under him. You're gonna have to get help over him at times. I think you gotta mix the looks up," Fisher explained. "You gotta affect the quarterback somehow. I mean hopefully the ball doesn't get to be held a long time. There's different things to do, but you gotta know where he's at and make sure he's not in a one-on-one situation."

The bad news for Shane Beamer and this offense is that Legette might be unable to go on Saturday. During his weekly Sunday teleconference call, Shane Beamer said that the star wideout is questionable this week as he deals with an upper-body injury he suffered against Missouri.
