It’s funny how college football works sometimes. With the forecast projecting there could be some rain Saturday night at Williams Brice Stadium, that could change the game plan for both teams. With rain, it typically comes with teams running to protect the ball, and the Gamecocks mightily struggled with stopping the run last week. While it may not rain all game, or maybe none during the match, it makes you laugh just a bit knowing you may have to get better in both phases this Saturday night.

As you’ve been told here on GamecocksDigest all week, this isn’t just an FCS school you should turn your head away from and chalk it as an easy win. This isn’t the “coaches talk” of every team’s good. This is a very experienced Furman squad on both sides of the ball and in their two-deep depth chart. So, what should you expect from this Furman squad?

A Stubborn Rushing Attack

Rain or shine, this Furman squad will look to attack the Gamecocks on the ground, not only with the backs but with their veteran Quarterback Tyler Huff. Last week, this team ran the ball nearly 40 times for 196 yards. The Gamecocks sometimes struggled to wrap up and finish the tackles or over-pursued some, so they’ll get a chance to bounce back and get better this week.

Tons Of Eye Candy

Something else this Furman offense does exceptionally well is forcing you to look in the wrong place. This team motions a decent amount and will test the linebackers with play-action. This linebacker unit will be tested this weekend and must stay disciplined and fly to the ball. One small wrong move could cost this defense.

Vulnerable To Big Plays

While Furman is an experienced team, especially on the defense, returning 10 of 11 starters, they can be prone to a big play. They’re often unafraid to play the opposing team in man-to-man coverage. With that comes great opportunities to create explosives; however, Spencer Rattler must have time for that to happen.

The Gamecocks will get a chance to right their wrongs and gain some momentum heading into Athens, but it will be a challenging task. The Gamecocks must stay disciplined and get better on both lines of scrimmage.
