Shane Beamer and South Carolina's Football staff are trying to tackle multiple positions of need in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and few positions hold a higher priority than the running back position. The Gamecocks are already heavily in contention for Mississippi native Daniel Hill. They are also in the game for other backs like Georgia native Matthew Fuller and Arkansas native Braylen Russell.

Russell, in particular, is probably the biggest nationally recognizable name outside of Hill on South Carolina's running back board, and considering the current state of the Gamecocks' offensive backfield, running back coach Montario Hardesty and the rest of the offensive staff would likely love to add two backs in this class. Russell has shown some mutual interest in South Carolina, evidenced by the official visit he took to Soda City back on the weekend of June 2nd-4th, and possibly, has more mutual interest than some initially thought, as Russell was photographed wearing Gamecock gloves at a recent 7-on-7 camp.

Some of the other schools currently involved in Russell's recruitment are the home-state Arkansas Razorbacks, SEC foes in Tennessee and Texas A&M, and also the Baylor Bears. As of this moment, Braylen is done with official visits and will be committing on July 14th at 7:30 PM EDT.
