2025 Edge Rusher CJ May Includes Gamecocks In Top 10

South Carolina's Football stays hot as they make the cut for another edge rusher from the 2025 class in CJ May.

It has become abundantly clear what South Carolina feels they need to improve on the defense side of the ball. This past season, South Carolina had only 20 sacks, which ranked 114th in college football. An even more alarming stat is six of those sacks came in the win over 13th-ranked Kentucky.

The Gamecocks have struggled to get after the quarterback, and they have prioritized going after some of the nation's top edge rushers for the past couple of, efforts that have helped the staff land blue-chip talent like Desmond Umeozulu and Dylan Stewart just a little over a week ago. They are still pursuing recruits in future classes, such as CJ May, who has listed the Gamecocks in his most recent top 10 schools group.

South Carolina

Tennessee

Notre Dame

Clemson

Miami

Georgia

Auburn

Ole Miss

Louisville

Troy

Regarding any potential leaders for May, the Alabama native has taken five visits to Auburn and four trips to Tennessee, according to his On3 profile, so it looks as if the Tigers and the Volunteers are standing out at this point in CJ's recruitment. The rising junior recently had a successful sophomore season accounting for 50 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and ten tackles for loss. With his 6'3" frame and more room for growth, the Gamecocks have continued to be in the running for some of the nation's top edge rushers.
