Gamecocks Make Top 13 For 2025 Five-Star Safety DJ Pickett

Torrian Gray's track record of development has helped South Carolina's Football program with several prospects, and appears to be doing so with DJ Pickett.

Heading into year three of the Shane Beamer era, Torrian Gray has put together a coaching résumé that speaks for itself. He took a former walk-on in Jaylan Foster and made him an All-American in his only year coaching him in 2021. Torrian helped Cam Smith put together his two best seasons as a Gamecock, which led to him being drafted in the second round last April. He turned a former high school option quarterback in Darius Rush into a 5th-round draft pick in April.

Currently, he has two safeties in Nick Emmanwori and DQ Smith, who both were named freshmen All-Americans last Fall and are likely future NFL players in their own right. For someone like 2025 five-star safety DJ Pickett, accolades like this have to grab their attention, and that seems to have been accomplished with the Florida native, as Pickett included South Carolina in his Top 13 group he released on Thursday evening.

Pickett has only made one visit so far to Columbia, which was back on March 14th of this year. The main contenders in DJ's recruitment seem to be Florida and Georgia, who have hosted the Zephyrhills product for at least three or more visits this calendar year. Should the Gamecocks want to remain in the race, they'll need to continue to make progress on the field and will likely need Emmanwori and Smith to become high-level draft picks by the time their college careers are over.
