LOOK: Gamecock LB Commit Fred Johnson Back Squats 500 Lbs.
South Carolina's Football staff has found multiple under-the-radar prospects through their work this summer and subsequently secured pledges from some of these prospects, like Georgia natives Matthew Fuller and David Bucey. The first prospect, however, that Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks staff made headway with early in June was linebacker prospect and Virginia native Fred Johnson.
Johnson, a two-way prospect out of Maury High School, went from earning an offer on June 2nd due to a recent camp performance to committing to Clayton White and his defensive staff just fifteen days later. Being paired up with fellow commit Wendell Gregory, the collective athletic ability of South Carolina's linebacker room continues to grow with the recent additions of guys like Grayson "Pup" Howard and Ole Miss transfer Jaron Willis.
Another facet of South Carolina's Football program that's seen significant improvement has been its strength and conditioning program, thanks to the guidance of Luke Day and his strength staff. For Fred Johnson, however, he's not going to be a player that's far behind in terms of his physical prowess because earlier this week, when doing max lifts with his teammates, Johnson was recorded back squatting close to 500 pounds, something rarely seen by high school football players.
With this kind of strength, and his ability to move on the field, Fred won't have to wait long to earn playing time in Columbia.
