Top-Ranked IOL Liam Andrews Includes Gamecocks in Top Eight
One of the hardest-working assistants in the country this year has been South Carolina Offensive Line Coach Lonnie Teasley. Despite taking the job just a few months ago, Teasley has helped the Gamecocks land a few elite offensive line talents in the class of 2024 and have closed in a few others.
Though South Carolina has done an excellent job landing a few elite offensive tackles, such as Kam Pringle and Josiah Thompson, the team only has one commit that's projected to play guard for the Gamecocks in Blake Franks. After the recent decommitment of 2024 Offensive Lineman Mike Williams, who was also projected to play guard at the next level, the "Great Wall of Carolina" now has a small gap in its infrastructure. This may change soon, as the Gamecocks are in on a top guard in the class of 2024.
Liam Andrews, the number one-ranked interior offensive lineman according to On3's Industry Ranking, included the Gamecocks in his final eight schools left in his recruitment. The Gamecocks are already shaping up to have some of the best offensive line talents in the 2024 recruiting class, and that notion would only be further solidified with Andrews.
There's not much to say about the guard that isn't positive. He is quick and physical while still being under control. Standing at 6-5, he provides excellent size, allowing him to consistently drive opposing defenses back.
Something you see less often with an offensive lineman is versatility, but Andrews provides plenty of it. He is being recruited as an offensive and defensive lineman for many schools, and he's also played basketball and lacrosse in high school. Coaches love multi-sport athletes across all positions, but being able to find one on the line is a rare occurrence.
Liam Andrews' Top 8 consists of Penn State, South Carolina, LSU, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Miami, Florida, and Oklahoma. There will be stiff competition for the highly-touted interior o-lineman, but with how Coach Teasley and Shane Beamer have proven they can land national-level o-line prospects, there's no reason for them to be counted out.
