Gamecock MBB Target Derrion Reid Named To 3rd Team At EYBL Session 3
Derrion Reid, a highly sought-after 2024 recruit for South Carolina, was named to the third team at Nike EYBL session three in Dallas, TX. According to On3's recruiting prediction machine, Reid is leaning towards the Gamecocks in his recruiting process.
Reid, who plays for Thaddeus Young's EYBL AAU team "Team Thad," has been a do-it-all type of player for them, averaging 17.5 points per game, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, boosting his team to a four-way tie for the #2 overall team on the EYBL circuit.
This past weekend, the 62nd overall player, per ESPN, averaged 15.3 points and five rebounds, earning him third-team honors, including a 21-point outing against the section A 4th-ranked NJ Scholars. Reid drew numerous shooting fouls and cashed in, shooting 81.3 percent from the charity stripe on 16 attempts.
At his listed height of 6-foot-7, Reid has the prototypical size that fits today's game, allowing him to play multiple positions from the two-guard to the power forward position. Improving his stoke beyond the arc, shooting 52.9 percent this season, the Grovetown native can score from the wing at a high level and rebound and bang with the bigs down low.
In a recent interview with RYZE Hoops media specialist Symone Stanley, Reid commented on how his perimeter shot is underrated and how he wants to improve it this summer.
"It was definitely my shot- I've been on the gun every day this week, [and I'm] improving fast," Reid said.
Thus far, Redid has only made two trips to South Carolina, more than any schools he has visited. His last visit to Columbia was on January 2, 2023.
