BREAKING: Gamecocks Land Commitment From Transfer Offensive Lineman
South Carolina's offensive line is going to look vastly different in 2023 compared to last Fall. The Gamecocks lost three starters upfront in center Eric Douglas, guard Jovaughn Gwyn and tackle Dylan Wonnum, all of whom started 37 or more games and are now pursuing their NFL dreams.
Those departures combined with Jaylen Nichols' injury he suffered in the Garnet and Black Spring game, which could sideline him for the majority of the 2023 season, leave the Gamecocks in a bit of a pickle regarding their offensive line unit. This led Shane Beamer and the offensive coaching staff to dip into the portal and offer some linemen in this second transfer portal window, with no movement taking place until Wednesday afternoon, when Charlotte transfer offensive tackle Jaxon Hughes announced his commitment to the Gamecocks.
Hughes apparently visited the program sometime in the past few days and clearly felt like Columbia was the best destination for him. Jaxon started 19 games overall during his time in the Queen City, including 18 starts at left tackle.
