A new transfer d-line target has emerged for the Gamecocks in Monkell Goodwine. Goodwine, a redshirt sophomore who stands at 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 278 pounds, didn't appear in a single game at his previous stop at Alabama. However, Monkell was rated as one of the best players in his class, slotted by On3's Industry Rankings as the 69th-best prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle.

One intriguing aspect of his story is his connection to the DMV region (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia). South Carolina has established a pipeline to this region due to the connections Shane Beamer and other coaches have matriculated over time, fostering a budding rivalry with Maryland fans. Monkell Goodwine, hailing from Maryland, becomes a focal point in this dynamic. With South Carolina expected to pursue him, a recruiting battle between Carolina and Maryland could loom on the horizon.

Monkell could find opportunities for early playing time at Carolina. With the lack of youth along the interior defensive line, Goodwine may quickly become a key player in the Gamecocks' rotation. The potential clash between South Carolina and Maryland adds an extra layer of intrigue, creating anticipation for another compelling battle on and off the field. Monkell Goodwine's journey could be a pivotal chapter in this evolving storyline as the Gamecocks continue to build their presence in the DMV.
