Why Stanford stands out from the remaining Pac-12 programs
Despite the college football season starting in a few weeks this is still an unsolved mystery that is distracting us from the on-field product.
The Pac-12 as we once knew it with programs spread throughout various states with a rich tradition and history all along the West coast has now dissolved into four programs looking for a new home. Oregon State, Washington State, Cal, and Stanford are the remaining four passengers on what can only be compared to a titanic-like sinking ship.
There are a few options for each school, but of the four it is safe to say that not only does Stanford hold the most power but they are the most attractive by far. Outside of heading to the Big 12 who is no longer interested in the four, there are some decently attractive options for Stanford.
However, throughout this wave of realignment it has become clear that those across the nation either forgot or don't realize how valuable of a brand Stanford can bring to a conference. That is why I decided to break down what exactly makes them such an attractive popular addition.
Premier Academics
US News Rank: No. 3
Stanford is one of the most prestigious Universities in the world academically, which makes their success in athletics that much more impressive. On top of having chances to compete at the highest level in athletics, a degree from Stanford is as valuable as any.
Elite Athletic Department
Stanford has won 26 of the 29 available LEARFIELD Directors' Cups, which is given to the most successful intercollegiate athletic department in the country. While their struggles in men's basketball and football are what most people latch onto as of late, Stanford has the most championships across all sports in the country. The Farm is a breeding ground for elite athletes such as Tiger Woods, Katie Ledecky, Andrew Luck, Sophia Smith, Richard Sherman and John Elway among countless others.
