Cedric Tillman's Path To Playing Time

Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Cedric Tillman was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he could play an impact role in year one.

The Cleveland Browns selected Cedric Tillman with the No. 68 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He was the fourth Tennessee Volunteer off the board, following Darnell Wright, Hendon Hooker, and Jalin Hyatt.

So, what can Cleveland do with their newest receiver acquisition? The numbers speak for themselves with him. Last season with Tennessee, Tillman had 417 yards and three receiving touchdowns during a year in which he was sidelined often with an ankle injury. He was a 1,000-yard receiver in 2021 during a season when he was fully healthy.

Currently, the Browns have Donovan Peoples-Jones, Amari Cooper, and Elijah Moore as their three starting receivers. They have a ton of depth at the position. However, most of the players behind the main three targets are unproven.

Tillman can easily become a notable weapon in the Cleveland offense this upcoming season. With the Vols, he was very versatile in how head coach Josh Heupel used him. They lined him up in the slot and out wide on the opposite side of fellow draftee Jalin Hyatt.

The Browns will likely not use him as a starter to begin the season. Later in the year, they will be able to use him like he was in college with multiple formations at play. Tillman is also very balanced. He can go deep and is a very good route runner underneath, which has him primed for an impressive NFL career. Cleveland certainly has plenty of ways they can use their third-rounder, and it will be interesting to see what way they go with him.
