Hendon Hooker Visiting With Detroit Lions
Hendon Hooker is garnering interest from several NFL teams as the draft process heats up, but it appears that a new team has entered the fray. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Monday that Hooker flew to Detroit on Monday for a visit with the Lions on Tuesday.
The Lions currently hold two first-round picks and two second-round picks, with picks 6 (from the Rams), 18, 48, and 55 (from the Vikings). The Lions currently have just two quarterbacks on their roster. Jared Goff has two years left on his deal that pays him over $20 million each season in base salary, according to Spotrac. After that, he will become an unrestricted free agent, barring an extension. The Lions also have Nate Sudfeld under contract for just this season.
With so many early picks, it is tough to say where the Lions could be targeting Hendon Hooker. They could also be looking to move up or down with so much draft capital to work with. Hooker was recently in New Orleans, visiting with the Saints, who hold the 29th overall pick in this year’s draft.
Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network reported in February that Hooker met “extensively” with the Raiders, Panthers, Giants, Saints, and Cowboys, but many of their quarterback rooms have changed since then. Hooker has also been compared to a former No. 1 overall pick and mocked as a top-5 pick. With just a few weeks until draft day, where the 25-year-old quarterback will wind up is still very unclear.
