How Evan Stewart Changes Every Game
Texas A&M standout wide receiver Evan Stewart hasn't exactly been living in the shadows. The talented sophomore was a consensus five-star prospect coming out of high school and has a quarter-million Instagram followers. Though his name has been in the spotlight for years, Stewart is beginning to show the national audience what he can do on the football field.
He's averaged 70 receiving yards per game since he began his college career. Stewart found another gear this year, racking up two 100+ yard outings and four touchdowns through five games. He presents many unique roadblocks to Tennessee's defense that could prove problematic.
Tackling has been spotty for Tennessee at points this year. Stewart keeps his feet churning and is so explosive that defenses often are making multiple tackle attempts at him. Stewart thrives when he creates chaos on the defense end because of his athleticism. Texas A&M has found him on several big-hitting screen pass plays because of how well he plays in the open field.
The Texas native has spent the past few years honing his feet at the line of scrimmage. Stewart does an excellent job of squeezing leverage and creating opportunities for his quarterback. There's an apparent creativity present when A&M quarterbacks target Stewart that just isn't there when others get the football, which is quite surprising because Texas A&M has a few offensive difference-makers.
Identifying where No. 1 is on Saturday will be the most important objective for Tennessee. They must stay physical with him, stay motivated, and play with a "next-re" mentality.
