Tennessee Learns Initial CFP Ranking

The Tennessee Volunteers (6-2, 3-2) have officially been ranked as the No. 17 team in college football, according to the CFP committee.

The initial College Football Playoff rankings have been released, and the Vols come in as the No. 17 team in college football. They still have a few important games left to determine their final standing, but it's been an interesting first two months of the season already.

They now return home to face the UConn Huskies (1-7). Tennessee opened as a 36-point favorite, a line that could continue to climb ahead of kickoff. They can't take this week for granted, as evidenced by a tough showing against Austin Peay earlier in the season at Neyland Stadium. Nonetheless, it is a game that the Vols should be preparing for many guys to get action.

These contests are big for the following season. The coaching staff can look back on the tape in the spring and determine which young players attacked, which need work, and how to prepare their football team better in spring practices. Additionally, Tennessee will be traveling to the No. 14-ranked Missouri Tigers next week, meaning they need to continue figuring things out before heading to Columbia, Missouri.
