Santiago Vescovi Will Return For Season Opener
Tennessee has been without some of their top players to kick off the season exhibitions. They were missing starting point guard Zakai Zeigler and starting shooting guard Santiago Vescovi.
Recently, Vescovi returned to Rocky Top and will play for the Volunteers on Monday against Tennessee Tech. Vescovi was dealing with a private family matter back in Uruguay during the time of the exhibition games against Michigan State and Lenoir-Rhyne, which happened this past week. At the time, it was uncertain if the star shooting guard would be back in time for the season opener, but earlier today, it was confirmed he would be back with the team.
Vescovi has been a multiple-year starter for the Volunteers and put together an impressive season last season. He played in 33 games and started every game, putting together an average of 12.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, with a field goal percentage of 39.6%. He also put together an ll-SEC first-team season last year before ultimately deciding to return to the Volunteers for his final season of eligibility.
Looking forward to this season, Vescovi is the known starting guard. He has also been named to the “Jerry West Award” watch list, which is the award given out to the best shooting guard across college basketball.
This is some of the best news the University of Tennessee could have received. Now, all eyes turn to Zeigler as he makes a comeback from his injury that he suffered back in February earlier this year. The Volunteers will tip off this coming Monday.
