Longhorns Land Surprise Commitment from LSU Decommit Devon Pryor
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Longhorns men's basketball made another addition to its roster for the upcoming season on Monday in a move that came a bit out of left field, though fans will certainly take the pleasant offseason surprise.
Texas landed a commitment from 2024 PSAT Academy (Houston) forward Devon Pryor, who will reclassify to the 2023 class and join coach Rodney Terry's roster for the upcoming season, he announced on Twitter.
The three-star, 6-7 forward decommitted from LSU on June 17 and took an unofficial visit to Austin last week, per reports from Inside Texas. He had been fielding offers from programs like Penn State, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, Colorado and Texas A&M, but will now get to stay in his home state.
Though his commitment did come a bit out of nowhere for the average fan given that there was no reported interest, things have clearly been going on behind the scenes for some time.
“The relationship with coach Terry and coach Chappell and the rest of the staff has been the best,” Pryor told On3. “Plus the communication and support they’ve shown is unmatched. Texas has always been one of those schools that I’ve kept up with through my basketball career. I’ve seen the talent that has gone through and I believe I can be one of those guys and so do they. It’s a winning culture and a phenomenal place to be.”
The Longhorns now add a young piece to their bench for the upcoming season. Pryor could earn some key minutes as a freshman and will be an interesting player to watch develop over the next two seasons.
