Longhorns Hosting Top Transfer Target Max Abmas for Two-Day Visit

Oral Roberts transfer Max Abmas is in Austin taking an official visit with the Texas Longhorns.

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns continue to heat up their pursuit of elite Oral Roberts transfer guard Max Abmas.

The Longhorns and coach Rodney Terry are hosting Abmas for a visit in Austin on Wednesday and Thursday, per reports from Inside Texas. Abmas just got done visiting the Kansas State Wildcats and coach Jerome Tang in Manhattan this past weekend. Texas and Kansas State appear to be the current recruiting leaders for Abmas, with Wichita State in the mix as well.

Texas has yet to land a commitment via the transfer portal during an offseason that has seen the team experience some major roster turnover. But potentially adding Abmas would certainly help make up for some of the losses.

The Rockwall (Dallas), Texas native will enter next season as the NCAA's active scoring leader (2,561) and is undoubtedly one of the most coveted players in the portal. This kind of experience is nothing to gloss over, especially considering how old this past year's team was.

Abmas averaged 21.9 points (ninth in the nation), 4.4 rebounds and four assists this past season while shooting 43.6 percent from the field. He blew up on the national stage in March Madness after leading Oral Roberts to the Sweet 16 during the 2020-21 season, averaging 26.6 points per game during those three games in the NCAA Tournament.

Terry has some steep competition to try to sway Abmas during his trip to Austin. If the Longhorns manage to convince him that the Forty Acres is the place to be, Terry would have a big-time scoring at his disposal for his first full season as head coach..
