UCLA Football: Tracking Early Signing Day Commitments For Bruins 2024 Recruiting Class
Your UCLA Bruins earned just 11 commits for their 2024 recruiting class, 10 of which have signed their letters of intent (LOI) as of 4:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Today, December 20th marks the beginning of a three-day window wherein the recruits can officially sign their LOI's, solidifying their commitment to UCLA.
AllBruins.com has scouting evaluations (hyperlinked) for nearly every recruit in UCLA's 2024 class. Here is the list of commits who will officially join the Bruin football program in the coming days/weeks.
The Bruin 2024 class consists of a handful of offensive tackles, a couple quarterbacks, a running back, two linebackers (with one yet to officially sign) and two cornerbacks. Quite sparse for the Bruins as they head into their first year in the Big 10, come 2024.
The two quarterbacks are Henry Hasselbeck [Massachusetts] (the son of former NFL QB Matt Hasselbeck) and Karson Gordon [Texas]. Henry Hasselbeck had been committed to Michigan state for the majority of his senior season, up until UCLA got him on campus for an official visit just days ago. The transfer of former five-star QB recruit Dante Moore likely played a factor in the Bruin's efforts to recruit a second QB in this cycle. Gordon, on the other hand, committed to the Bruins after de-comitting from UNLV this past October.
In addition to those two signal-callers, UCLA earned the commitment of local running back and St. John Bosco product Cameron Jones. Jones, in my opinion, is a sneaky-good get for Chip Kelly, as he will likely contribute right away in short-yardage situations for the Bruin offense. Blocking for Jones, Hasselbeck, and Gordon will be three offensive tackle commits. Marquise Thorpe-Taylor [Washington], Mark Schroller [California], and Jensen Somerville [Utah] all come in listed above 6-5, and all three are considered three-star prospects by 247Sports.
Kwazi Gilmer [California] is the lone pass catcher who committed to UCLA in this cycle.
Khristian Dunbar-Hawkins [California] and Jamir Benjamin [Michigan] are the two cornerbacks in UCLA's 2024 haul. Isaiah Patterson [Washington] signed his letter of intent to the Bruins, and as it stands, he's the lone non-cornerback on the defensive side of the ball currently signed to UCLA. The Bruins still await the signature of another linebacker, Blake Tabaracci [Utah].
To recap (assuming Tabaracci signs), that's just 11 signatures. Traditional signing day is in February, so there is still time for additional signees. But by that time, the vast majority of the best prospects will have signed their LOI's, mostly in an effort to get on campus sooner.
