WATCH: New York Yankees' Aaron Judge Robs Shohei Ohtani of Home Run
In a star-filled series at Yankee Stadium between the Los Angeles Angels and the New York Yankees, it was Yankees star Aaron Judge that got the first laugh on Wednesday night.
Judge robbed Angels star Shohei Ohtani of a first-inning home run, as Ohtani attempted to go out to dead center.
It was a great play by Judge, who went back perfectly on the ball, timed the jump perfectly and managed to hold onto the ball despite not catching it cleanly originally.
It was also ironic that Judge robbed Ohtani because last night, Ohtani homered in the first inning to make a little Yankee Stadium history.
For Ohtani, last night's home run was his fourth home run of the season. He's out to a .295 batting average to start the year, with a .902 OPS. He has 11 RBI this year as well.
For his career at the plate, he's a .268 hitter with 131 home runs and 353 RBI.
Of course, with Ohtani, the story doesn't just end at the plate. The most unique player of our generation, he also is 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA this season. He pitched two innings on Monday against the Red Sox but ultimately was removed after a long rain delay.
We've written a lot about Ohtani here lately. We heard a good story earlier this week about how St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar talked about playing alongside him in the WBC. We also wrote about Ohtani striking out his Team Japan teammate Masataka Yoshida on Monday against the Red Sox, and we heard Buster Olney of ESPN say that he thinks the Mets will be the biggest bidder for Ohtani's services in free agency. And just earlier today, Mike Trout discussed what it was like facing Ohtani in the World Baseball Classic.
