As Red Bull continues to dominate the 2023 Formula 1 season, Fernando Alonso has set his sights on winning his 33rd Grand Prix ten years after winning his last race. However, during a recent interview, the Spanish driver confessed that is likely only going to happen if the reported tensions within Red Bull lead to on-track conflicts.

The Aston Martin driver closely monitors the dynamic between the Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, hoping that any frosty relations within the team may work to his advantage.

Red Bull's RB19 has demonstrated superior performance, claiming victory in all five races so far this year and four out of those five having a 1-2 finish. Alonso acknowledges that his chances of winning largely depend on misfortune striking the Red Bull camp. While realistic about the situation, he remains hopeful and vigilant for any potential opportunities that may arise.

Reports of friction within the Austrian team have risen this year as Perez has been able to apply more pressure on Verstappen and has had a boost in motivation being in a position to fight for the championship.

During an interview with DAZN, Alonso explained:

"Hopefully a win will arrive, the 33rd that has been talked about so much. But we have to be realistic.

"We know that the Red Bulls are too far ahead now. But hey, anything can happen.

"A reliability problem, a touch between them. We know there has been a lot of talk about them having a hot environment, so we will pay attention."

Alonso has also had a fantastic start to the season being on the third spot on the podium for four out of the five races so far, in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Miami, as well as crossing the line in fourth in Azerbaijan. This has places him comfortably in third place in the current drivers' standings with 75 points.
