Angels 'Have Considered' Signing Marquee Free Agents Blake Snell, Cody Bellinger
Starting for your Los Angeles Angels, left-hander Blake Snell.
Next up to bat for your Angels, lefty Cody Bellinger.
What did you feel when you read these two sentences? Both had a nice ring to it, and they could soon become a reality.
Now, the Angels aren't likely to sign both Snell and Bellinger, but they are doing their due diligence. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Angels are considering signing one of these two players in free agency.
"The Angels could continue to add in free agency and have considered signing one of the marquee players on the free agent market -- in particular, left-hander Blake Snell and first baseman/centerfielder Cody Bellinger."
Per Jeff Passan of ESPN
Both players have been linked with the Halos all offseason, so there seems to be a lot of smoke around potential signings. At one point, it was said that the Halos had made Snell their priority, but so far nothing has come to fruition.
The Angels do need help in their starting rotation, so Snell makes more sense for the build of the team. But typically, the Angels have stayed away from long-term free-agent pitching contracts, possibly giving an edge up to Bellinger.
Both players would be big upgrades for the team, and the Angels desperately need more talent on the roster. The organization wants to be competitive in 2024, and landing one of these guys would help their goal.
They have already added some quality relievers to the mix, but now the focus shifts to other parts of the roster. Bellinger would provide a solid, power-hitting bat for the Halos, while Snell would give them a true ace-level starter to build around.
It's all up to how owner Arte Moreno views each player and if he is willing to open the checkbook. This situation remains fluid, but the feeling continues to be that the Angels may land one of these two guys before all is said and done.
