It remains to be seen if third baseman Anthony Rendon returns to game action this season. He has missed significant amounts of time over the year dealing with numerous injuries.

However, it seems that he has made slight progress in his rehab process. He was seen doing some light running over the weekend, which is a good sign for him.

But with where the Angels are in the standings, it doesn’t make a ton of sense for him to come back this season. He likely won’t be back, and will rather look ahead to next season.

The Rendon era has been a nightmare for the Halos organization. He hasn’t played in more than 58 games for them in a season, despite being paid $38 million a year. His injury history has taken its toll on this franchise and has hurt them in their roster construction.

Throughout his rehab process this season, multiple media members have called Rendon out for his bad attitude toward things. While he is likely frustrated at how often he keeps getting hurt, many have said that he has acted unprofessionally.

It has caused talk about the Angels possibly cutting ties with him over the winter, although the team has shown no interest in doing so, and that fact remains unlikely.

The team is still on the hook for another three years of his contract, also making it unlikely that they will release him this offseason. The money would still be on their books, so the Angels likely have no interest in paying that much dead money.

The hope is that Rendon can get himself healthy and help this team next season. When he is on the field, he has shown that he can still play.

But the Halos offseason will be an interesting one to watch. There could be major changes to this roster come next season, and they remain one of the more fascinating teams this winter.
