Shohei Ohtani Rumors: Anonymous Executive Says Angels Could Get ‘Franchise-Defining’ Haul in Trade
As the trade deadline inches closer, the noise surrounding what the Angels will do with two-way star Shohei Ohtani has cooled a bit. The team has started to win some games, putting themselves right back into the race for the final American League wild-card spot.
"It’s tough to blame Angels owner Arte Moreno and his front office for getting excited about the team’s recent play, especially when you consider that Los Angeles hasn’t played in the postseason since 2014"
Per MLB.com
It’s unlikely at this point that the Angels will trade Ohtani, and they will be moving to be buyers instead. But there is always a chance that the team decides to change course and actually does trade him away.
If the team were to trade away their franchise player, it would be a deal unlike we have ever seen. They would be foolish to not even see what they could get for him.
Many believe that he will leave the Angels after the season, so the organization should at least consider a move.
Ohtani is the modern-day Babe Ruth, and the haul the Angels would get would be enormous. One anonymous executive called it “franchise-defining”.
“I think they definitely have to figure out what they might be able to get for him,” a National League executive said. “It would be a haul. They have to figure out what his value is. That can be franchise-defining.”

These are strong words, but rightfully so. He is the biggest star in the game today and provides excellent two-way production.
We haven’t seen a player like Ohtani in the history of the game, but he would be a rental player for whoever would trade for him. This could lessen the return unless the team got a guarantee of an extension from Ohtani. And even then, it could still get them a heavy return. This will certainly be a situation to watch play out over the next week.
