Takeaways: The Braves bats never got going in a 5-2 loss to the Red Sox

The Braves dropped game two against the Red Sox, splitting the two-game set.

The Braves lost game two of their two-game series with the Red Sox 5-2 to split the series.

The pitching was solid for the Braves until Raisel Iglesias gave up a two-spot in the ninth, making a comeback feel unsurmountable.

What can we take away from the Braves 5-2 loss to the Red Sox?

Dylan Lee had a solid start as the "opener"

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Dylan Lee got the start for the Braves in an opener role where he went 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball, striking out three. I would have loved to see Lee go a bit deeper into this ball game as he only threw 31 pitches, but he is a relief guy, so I understand the decision around only letting him go a few innings. If Lee could build up some more stamina to help this ball club while the Braves await the return of Kyle Wright and Max Fried it would be a massive help. Lee has been one of the best relievers in baseball this season, which is exactly what the Braves need with all their injuries to the staff.

Ronald Acuña Jr. is so good at baseball

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Ronald Acuña Jr. had another big game for the Braves, going 2-4 with a 470-foot homer and a base hit. I thought Acuña Jr's homer would spark the offense, but it just didn't happen for the Braves in this ball game. Acuña Jr. continues to separate himself from the pack in the MVP race every time he laces up his cleats. It's truly a joy to be able to watch Acuña Jr. play baseball every day. If you have ever wondered what a five-tool player is, just Google Acuña Jr. highlights, and that sums it up.

The Braves couldn't get "the big hit"

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Braves left 16 runners on base in this game which is a ton. Ironically the Red Sox left 18 on base but still left with the victory. I have always been a big believer in the "big hit" to spark the offense. A two-out base hit with runners on second and third would be a perfect example of what I am referring to, and the Braves couldn't do that in this ball game. The Braves got them on but couldn't get them in, leading to this 5-2 loss. This happens sometimes in baseball, but you won't keep this prolific Braves offense down very long.

What's next?
