Lineup, how to watch Atlanta's afternoon matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies
Feels like the only thing that's been able to stop this red-hot Braves team is the weather.
With yesterday's postponement, set to be made up in a doubleheader in September, the Braves are guaranteed not to lose the series thanks to their 4-2 series-opening victory on Tuesday.
Atlanta's going to shuffle the rotation a bit in this one, with Bryce Elder starting today and AJ Smith-Shawver, last night's planned starter, instead taking the ball for Friday night's series opener in Cincinnati. Philadelphia is staying with planned starter Aaron Nola.
Lineup for the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, June 22nd
Here's how the Braves will line up for the contest:
With no need to give Travis d'Arnaud a rest day as he didn't catch last night, Atlanta elects to give Sean Murphy one more day to rest the irritated hamstring, with d'Arnaud starting behind the dish and batting 6th. Marcell Ozuna, the designated hitter, moves up to the traditional catcher's cleanup spot, with Eddie Rosario back in the lineup to face the righthander Nola, batting 7th.
Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, June 22nd
The new starter for Atlanta is RHP Bryce Elder. He's 5-1 on the season with a 2.60 ERA in his fourteen starts, striking out sixty-nine batters in his eighty-three innings of work. He's never faced Philadelphia, and no active member of the Phillies has a career at-bat against him.
Opposing the Braves is longtime foe Aaron Nola. The righty is 6-5 with a 4.66 ERA on the season, having struck out ninety-three batters in his ninety-four innings of work. A season after leading the National League with only 1.3 walks per nine innings (twenty-nine on the season), he's already walked twenty-four (a 2.3 BB/9) while seeing his strikeouts per nine innings drop by 1.5 and his ERA increase by more than a run.
Many Braves have hit Nola well, with five projected starters having batting averages of .245 or better and three players, Ronald Acuña Jr (4), Marcell Ozuna (4), and Austin Riley (5) having taken him deep four or more times in their careers.
