Saturday's Braves vs Mets game is rained out; will become doubleheader in August
The New York Mets have announced that Saturday afternoon's scheduled Game Two between Atlanta and New York has officially been rained out.
New York State saw showers roll in late last night that prompted the delay (and eventual conclusion) of last night's game one after five innings, giving Atlanta the 4-0 victory.
However, there's a chance that they could have played. If you believe long-time twitter account "Mets Weather", that has been tracking weather for Mets games for at least seven years, the game could have been pushed back from a 4:05 PM ET start to a more typical evening first pitch.
However, New York went ahead and preemptively called the game, with it being made up in Atlanta's mid-August trip back to Citi Field.
It's not a decision that everyone, on either side, was confident was needed.
Additionally, as we discussed just yesterday morning, the organization (and the fans) are happy to dodge Atlanta right now.
The best part of this game being rescheduled?
Max Scherzer's suspension was for ten games, so it now runs through May 1st and he's not eligible to pitch game four, as we originally expected.
The worst possible outcome for the Mets, realized. Scherzer drops the appeal of the suspension just to be back for the final game of the series, an early (and possibly unneeded) cancellation means he can't pitch, and they still aren't able to dodge Strider, who should be available to start on Sunday on an extra day of rest (if the weather holds up - tomorrow might be just as bad as Friday night and Saturday morning were).
