The Cleveland Guardians and Chicago Cubs got off to a late start on the North Side on Saturday night due to rain in the area. The first pitch wasn't thrown until a little after 10:00 PM EST.

Almost a three-hour delay can affect a starting pitcher in many ways. They still have gone through their normal pre-game routine and then need to stay loose during the delay while not knowing when the game will start.

All of this clearly did not affect Tanner Bibee as he was sharp from the very first pitch he threw. He ended up pitching 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits, walked two batters, didn't allow a run, and struck out nine batters.

Bibee's nine strikeouts tie a career-high for the rookie pitcher. He previously struck out nine hitters back on May 27 against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cubs and Cardinals fans don't get along a lot, but they can share in their disdain for how will Bibee pitches against them.

The Cubs truly didn't have any answers for the right-hander all night. They didn't get their first hit until Tucker Barnhart singled in the bottom of the third inning. Chicago hitters struggled to even make contact as they whiffed a total of 13 times on Bibee's pitches.

His most effective pitch against the Cubs was the four-seam fastball. Bibee worked it up to 97.5 mph which is well above his year average. He also forced Cubs hitters to whiff a total of eight times.

We're truly watching an ace in the making. Sure, Bibee will go through growing pains such as his start in San Diego. However, he continues to learn from those experiences and get better and better the more innings he pitches.

Bibee is going to be someone fans get to watch for a long time!
