In this story:

After an incredibly frustrating season that saw the San Diego Padres completely underwhelming expectations, they now head into the offseason with some major questions to answer. This team was supposed to compete for a World Series, but instead, they will be missing the postseason.

Nobody could have seen this coming, especially after the strong offseason that the team put together. But now, someone has to answer for the kind of year that they just had, and normally the first person to go is the manager.

There has been talk about the team moving on from manager Bob Melvin, but it remains to be seen if they do it. Owner Peter Seidler apparently wants to keep Melvin if possible, but changes do need to be made.

But as this team heads into the long winter, it seems that Melvin himself has no idea what will happen. He is just letting things play out and will see what happens at the end of the year.

We should find out sooner rather than later if Melvin will be leading this team next season, as they likely want to have some stability, But if they fire Melvin, it could be problematic, because there aren’t many better managers available right now.

He could return to San Diego for another year and hope for better results than what transpired this season. The Padres could learn from the mistakes of this year, and make sure nothing like this happens again.

It also should be noted that the Padres did get hot in September, and finally were playing well, but it was too late. The hole that they dug for themselves was too large, and they couldn't overcome the deficit.

All in all, it was an extremely disappointing year for the Padres and one that could be seen as one of the biggest letdowns in baseball history. They now have a chance to regroup, and it starts with figuring out what to do with Melvin this winter.
