Texas Rangers Scoring at Record Pace

With their 16-8 win over the Los Angeles Angels, the Texas Rangers have scored 10 or more runs in a MLB-leading nine games.

The Texas Rangers are scoring runs at a prodigious pace, so much so that when the wheels went up in Anaheim to head to head to the Seattle Mariners, the Rangers had set a team record.

After the 16-8 blowout of the  Los Angeles Angels on Sunday, the Rangers had scored a team-record 221 runs in their first 33 games.

In fact, it’s the most runs any Major League team has scored through their first 33 games since 2000.

Texas has scored in bunches so far this season. Sunday’s game was the ninth time the Rangers scored at least 10 runs in a game. That leads the Majors. The Rangers scored at least 10 eight times in their first 33 games in 1998.

By virtue of Sunday’s performance, the Rangers lead the Majors in runs scored per game at 6.7.

As a team, the Rangers are fourth in the Majors in batting average at .267, and also rank among the MLB leaders in OBP (second, .346), slugging (third, .454), OPS (third, .800), doubles (tied for seventh, 67) and home runs (seventh, 46).

And the Rangers are putting up numbers were bats like Corey Seager and Mitch Garver sidelined. Seager (hamstring) is expected to go on a rehab assignment this week.

“We’re missing two of our biggest power hitters – Seager and Garver – and we’re still doing what we’re doing,” Marcus Semien said. “Once we get those two back, it’s gonna be tough to put a lineup together, and that’s a good problem to have. The group that we have right now has been just playing well together and feeding off each other.”

Texas also lost Travis Jankowski, another key contributor, during Sunday's game with hamstring tightness.

The Rangers have also been able to lead the Majors in runs scored because they also lead in batting average with runners in scoring position. The Rangers are .338 (106-for-314) in those situations.

The Rangers begin a three-game series at Seattle on Monday at T-Mobile Park at 8:40 p.m. CT. The Rangers starts Jon Gray (1-1, 4.40) and the Mariners send out Logan Gilbert (1-1, 4.01).

Texas (20-17) has a two-game lead in the American League West and are 3 1/2 games up on Seattle (17-17).
