New York Yankees Re-Acquire Outfielder From Red Sox
He's baaack.
The New York Yankees have re-acquired outfielder Greg Allen from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league right-hander Diego Hernandez and cash.
According to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe, Allen's minor league deal had an upward mobility clause that required Boston to either promote him or trade him to another club if they offered an immediate big-league roster spot.
And as Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after Friday night's game, Allen is expected to join the team in Cincinnati.
The Yankees will need to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Allen, which could be done by transferring starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (back) to the 60-day injured list.
This will be Allen's second stint with the Yankees, having last played for the Bronx Bombers in 2021. In 15 games, Allen slashed .270/.417/.432 with the Yankees.
In 37 games in Triple-A Worcester this season, Allen hit .250/.407/.388 and has 22 stolen bases in 23 attempts.
